Sansiao Gallery is pleased to present “A.R.Penck”, a joint exhibition between recognised Neue Wilde artists A.R.Penck and Jorg Immendor. whose works personified Germany`s division during the Cold War.

A.R.Penck was born in Dresden in the German Democratic Republic in 1939 and died on 2 May this year in Zürich at the age of 77. Penck explored how signs, numbers, and symbols could become abstraction. His style stood out for its simplicity, as well as for its confrontational and often ironic imagery. His colourful images depicting primitive stick figures were as much a sign of protest as they were sheer provocation.

Jorg Immendorff was born in Bleckede in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1945 and died in Düsseldorf on May 27, 2007. Immendorff’s paintings often used irony and heavy symbolism to convey political ideas. Best known is his “Cafe Deutschland” series of paintings, in which the opposing ideologies of East and West Germany are represented in crowded and colourful pictures.
He was a professor at Dusseldorf Beaux-Arts. and received the merit medal of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1998,.
